Brian from CP here…
First thing’s first. Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4q5ZgexgL8 and listen to “Broken”, the newly recorded single from Iris Divine.
Like what you hear? Yes? No? Either way, send them a message on MySpace and tell them what you think.
I first heard this song live in late 2008, and after one of their performances in Virginia one night I told them that it was the next song that they had to record. Who knew that month’s later they would actually do it?
In March of 2009, after a performance that we had with Iris Divine, we were given an exclusive demo of “Broken” from a car stereo outside of an IHOP at 3 a.m. Cool, eh?
While the mix wasn’t complete, I could easily hear how well every instrument was tracked and could envision what the final product would sound like.
“Broken” has a strong chorus, with layered vocals and heavy guitars. The vocal talents of both Farhad Hossain and Navid Rashid blend seamlessly to provide a great sense of melody and strong harmonic support. Oh yeah, and if you don’t already know, they also provide all of the guitar work.
The bridge and solo section is worth the price of admission alone. It doesn’t get much better than this.
The guitar riffs are almost barbaric, kind of like a 5-ton bulldozer armed with canons and machine guns, blasting through the traffic jams and clearing the way for my morning commute into Washington, D.C.
Tanvir Tomal and Brian Dobbs (the other Brian) round out “Broken” with some great chunky rhythm support. Tanvir has some great double-bass work here, and I just can’t get enough of this guy’s work.
Insider’s note – interband emails between CP and ID have been confusing at times, being that there are two people named Brian Dobbs. Brian and I have since adopted the “BD-CP” and “BD-ID” signatures for email correspondence.
This isn’t just some basement recording folks, this is the real deal. Like us, Iris Divine takes their work seriously and strive for good recording quality. Kevin at Assembly Line Studios did an amazing job putting this mix together.
“Broken” will be available to purchase soon folks. Buy it and crank it up! Stay tuned to their MySpace page for updates.
